Alfredo Barraza
I was born in Ravenswood hospital in Chicago, IL at 2:30am on November 6th, 1984. My name is Alfredo Barraza. When I was a kid, my parents called me Alfredito or Freddy, I guess technically they called me Fredi. I went through most of grade school known to my friends as Freddy. When I switched schools in 6th grade, I became Alfredo again. One day, I misheard what someone said and mistook it for the word "potato." For a while, that was my new nickname. Eventually, that name was phased out too (save for a few people who still remember me as Potato). Some time in junior high, a friend of mine by the name of Esther started calling me Al. She made the best cookies I’ve ever had. I grew fond of the name Al and made it a point to introduce myself to new people as Al. When I went off to high school, the name Al stuck. Now, most everyone I know, even some relatives, call me Al.
In 2002, after graduating high school, I moved to Los Angeles for film school. I began attending LACC and studied there for two semesters before becoming involved with ThUnderground Films. In the summer of 2003, pre-production on "Zen in the Art of Yardsailing" began. Things are very different now than they were then.
I love music. I think that’s one of the reasons why I became interested in cinema. Audio/visual synchronicity has fascinated me ever since I can remember. Who knows how much time I have spent just staring at spectrometers and screensavers... Anyway, nowadays, I don’t play as many video games as I’d like to (oh I love video games just as much as music and movies), but I guess that’s because I want to play video games all day and all night, and that’s not really healthy nor is it productive. Oh well. I like yardsales too. And girls.
